ATTENTION: Coaches and Umpires

There are a high number of significant rule changes to the Little League Rulebook for 2025.

Please review the Official 2025 Little League Rule Change Document to ensure compliance for the upcoming season.

Coaches Information

All managers and coaches in NCLL are volunteers.
All Coaches once approved by the NCLL Board of Directors will receive a link from JDP to complete the background check online.

Equipment
Each manager is provided with an equipment bag, score book, practice and game balls. The equipment bag will contain batting helmets, catcher's equipment, catcher's mitt, and may have additional items depending on the division (hitting tees for T-ball, pitching machine for Machine Pitch, throwdown bases, etc.). The manager is responsible for returning the bag and equipment at the end of the season.

*NEW* Little League Abuse Awareness Course

The safety and well-being of all participants in the Little League program continues to be paramount, and it is on all of us to do our part to provide a fun, memorable, and safe experience each year. With the requirement of all volunteers to complete Abuse Awareness training each year, we are proud to announce the launch of the New Little League Abuse Awareness Course.

This course, which serves as a replacement for the programs previously available through third-party organizations like USA Baseball, is custom to the Little League program and provides an easier learning experience for our volunteers. Required to be completed by all volunteers each year, this course is available as part of the training and education courses at LittleLeague.org/Training, making signing up for the course even easier for our volunteers.

Little League Diamond Leader Training
Focused on ensuring children have a positive, well-rounded experience on and off the field, the Little League Diamond Leader Training Program is a FREE educational resource that provides coaches with an understanding of the impact that mental, social, and emotional well-being has in youth sports through detailed information, interactive scenarios, and a variety of additional resources.  Through this course, which navigates Little League volunteers through real-life scenarios that are being faced in local leagues all around the world each year, coaches will have a better understanding of the impact they have on their players, both on and off the field.
All NCLL volunteers are required to complete the Little League Diamond Leader course before the start of the spring season.

USA Baseball
USAB Develops Courses

USA Baseball Coach Certification is an educational program for all individuals who are currently coaching baseball or aspire to coach at any level of the game. The program aims to create a higher standard of coaching education and enhance the ability of coaches to better serve their athletes.
All NCLL coaches will be required to complete USA Baseball Certifications A and B.
All NCLL coaches for the minors divisions and older will be required to complete USA Baseball Certification C in addition to A and B.

More information regarding the required trainings will be sent to volunteers/coaches upon completion of the registration process.

USA Baseball Skills Matrix and Athlete Development Model
NCLL encourages coaches to acquaint themselves with the USA Baseball Youth Baseball Skills Matrix (YBSM): The YBSM is described as a comprehensive and detailed timeline that outlines the appropriate age to introduce new skills and concepts to players of all stages. The matrix is broken down into the same four stages of development introduced in USA Baseball’s Athlete Development Model (ADM).

Reading the ADM is important while also reviewing the YBSM for the age group you are coaching, but also to target the skills of the next age group in the matrix. The YBSM is very important knowledge as you prepare your age group for the next level. NCLL asks that you conduct a frank assessment of your players’ skills and develop individualized plans for each.
If you require assistance in developing individual improvement plans—which can also include at-home activities—please contact the NCLL Baseball Coach/Player Training Coordinator, Joe Guido or the NCLL Softball Coach/Player Training Coordinator, Sam Long.

NCLL Sponsorship
We ask that each team find a sponsor no later than March 31 so we have time to order sponsor banners. If you own a business or work for a generous employer, please consider becoming a league sponsor. Can a team have more than one sponsor? Absolutely!!

Umpire Information

Interested in Umpiring at Northern Calvert Little League?

Being an umpire is a fun and rewarding way to stay active with NCLL. Umpires typically work games starting at the Machine Pitch level, working up through the Minors and Senior level. Umpires go through a training program that teaches proper base and plate mechanics, rules of the game, and standards of conduct. Umpires are compensated for their work. If you are interested in umpiring at NCLL, please contact Marc Limburg at [email protected] or (443) 624-8188.

We need to provide positive feedback to encourage these teenagers to become better umpires. We ask that players, managers, coaches, and parents be respectful of our umpires. In addition, the Board of Directors has no tolerance for managers, coaches and parents who berate or mistreat our umpires and will not hesitate to take action in situations that merit such action. Please focus your attention on encourage and cheering the teams on the field, not questioning or arguing an umpire calls.
